About ICJLE Taiwan 2010
In the field of Japanese pedagogy, the Society for Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language in Japan is considered to be the world’s most prestigious association. In addition to attracting members from around the world, it holds conferences annually within Japan as well as biennially in other foreign countries. Since its inception in Japan in 1998, subsequent conferences have been organized worldwide; in 2000 the society’s biennial conference was held in Seoul, Korea, in 2002 in Beijing, China, in 2004 in Tokyo, Japan, in 2006 in New York, USA, in 2008 in Pusan, Korea and in 2009 in Sydney, Australia. Two Taiwan academic associations, the Association of Japanese Language Education in Taiwan and the Japanese Language and Literature Association in Taiwan, were given the honour to host the conference in Taiwan in 2010.
Purpose
The biennial conferences organized over the past few years have brought thousands of scholars, educators and researchers from around the world together to exchange research ideas, and to further understand how Japanese studies have developed in various nations worldwide. Through presentations and speeches, the conference ultimately hopes to bring a new wave of ideas and perspectives to Japanese studies in Taiwan as well as in other countries, in the hope of establishing more interactive academia networks of Japanese studies around the world, which is the driving force behind this biennial conference.
